Types of Roulette Bets Explained

Roulette is a fun game, whether it is online or live at a casino. But it can be tricky to learn at first with all the different types of bets in the game. It is a good idea to have a strong understanding of the kinds of roulette bets you can make before you start playing the game. Even if you are playing online, you will still want to know what you are doing, what you are betting on, and why you are betting it. The following list includes two most common types of roulette bets, along with some details, including odds, payouts, and how to make each bet specifically.

Outside Bets – Outside bets are bets made on the boundary of the roulette table. These bets are made on groups of colours or numbers instead of on a specific number.

Outside Bets

Red/Black –You are making a bet on whether the ball will land on a red number or a black number. These are marked as “red” or “black” on the table. This is an even-money bet (1:1).

Odd/Even –You are betting on whether an even or odd number will win. This is marked as “even” or “odd” on the table. This too is an even money bet.

High/Low –You are betting on whether the number selected will fall within 1-18 (low) or 19-36 (high). Both are even money bets.

Columns –This is a bet on the outcome being a number within one of the three columns of twelve numbers that span the longest side of the roulette table.

Dozens –This bet covers a dozen numbers, too.

Inside Bets –Inside bets cover bets made from inside the rectangle where the numbers are.

Straight Up –Straight bet is a bet on any one particular number. You can pick 1, 6, 14, 0, etc. If the ball lands on the number you selected, you win. If it does not, you lose. Each straight bet pays 35:1.

Split –This is the exact opposite of a straight bet. Instead of betting on one single number, you place a bet on the line that separates any two numbers. If either of these numbers comes up, you will win. Examples include: 1|2, 13|14, 25|26, 27|30.

Street –This is a bet on any number within a row of three numbers.

Corner –This bet is somewhat similar to the split bet. But instead of two numbers, you are betting that one of four numbers will come up.

Corner

Line –These are similar to streets bets, but instead of covering one row of three numbers, you cover two rows of three numbers.

Five-Number Bet –This is a bet on the group of numbers: 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. These five numbers are the only numbers included in the five-number bet. The house pays you 6:1 if you win and it has only a 13.16% probability of winning.

Basket –This is a bet on the numbers 0-1-2-3. It is also called a “first four” bet. This pays 6:1.
